Residential and commercial building Hallenstrasse, Zürich
The replacement new building is located in a quiet side street in Zurich's Seefeld quarter. Adjacent to a commercial building on the busy Dufourstrasse, the building creates a harmonious transition to neighboring 19th century residential buildings. In developing the volume, proportions, and materialization, elements and alignments from the neighborhood were incorporated and merged into an independent project with contemporary floor plans and unique expression. The necessary stepping is utilized to provide users with abundant daylight and private outdoor spaces in a dense urban context through the formation of terraces.
The ground floor is designated for commercial use and the courtyard is enhanced by a new micro-green space. From the stairwell, residents access apartments via an "rue intérieure" on the first floor and a light-flooded corridor on the third floor. The diverse housing mix ranges from micro-apartments through medium-sized maisonettes to 4.5-room apartments. The interior spaces of this Minergie building are characterized by few but high-quality and durable materials.
