'Pimp up my chair' was the slogan used by magazine AIT, together with Swiss furniture manufacturer Dietiker, inviting European architects and interior designers to participate in the project 'CHARITY CHAIR'. The participants were called upon to modify the wood chair 'ONO' however they wished. They were free to do whatever they wanted with the chair because it was ultimately for a good cause: the chairs thus transformed into art objects will subsequently be auctioned off. The proceeds will benefit a children’s project in the South African township of Langa, near Cape Town.
Beginning in June 2010, the chairs will be shown at the AIT ArchitekturSalons and elsewhere in Germany, as well as in other European countries. Visitors to the exhibitions will have the opportunity to bid for the chairs, up until the closing event, scheduled for autumn 2010 in Berlin. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the township.
BGP Architects are participating in the charity project in collaboration with MeierZosso. The rest of the hundred participating architects and interior designers come from throughout Europe. Fifteen chairs have been remodelled at institutions of higher education and by children at AIT children’s workshops.
