Residential and commercial buildings - Octavo

BGP_Octavo_Die_grosse_Figur_am_Oerliker_Park.jpgIn the beginning there was heavy industry. It flourished on the edge of the city. For a hundred years these forbidden cities were fenced off, but during the 1980s the industry left this terrain behind. "What shall we do?" the property owners and the city asked each other. They fought about development and about new construction in the forbidden city. One side thought only about a return on investments while the other fought for the creation of a new urban quality within the derelict area.

This monograph introduces the reader to the Octavo residential and commercial buildings in north Zürich, which form a further distinctive element in this new section of the city. The introductory text by Köbi Gantenbein, editor-in-chief at Hochparterre, is illustrated with numerous colour photographs and plans of the buildings, which were constructed between 2000 and 2004.
