Gegenpol: Matthias Bosshart

We cordially invite you to the next edition of Gegenpol – our series of events offering a slower-paced exploration of selected works from the BGP collection.

‘The picture is large, broad and, above all, powerful in its colour.’ Ran (2003) by Matthias Bosshart thrives on regularity, yet never allows the viewer’s gaze to rest.

Matthias Bosshart (*1950) belongs to a generation that early on turned away from non-pictorial information in painting. Himself a creator of experimental films, he has been covering his canvases with celluloid strips since 1989. Ran borrows its title and material from the war film of the same name by Akira Kurosawa – a memorial against war that went down in cinema history in 1985.

On 6 November, we will view the work together and discuss it with the artist and art historian Isabel Zürcher.
