Contract competition | Partial refurbishment of EMPA laboratory building A, Dübendorf

BGP & Ghisleni Partner are awarded the contract for the “Partial refurbishment of EMPA Laboratory Building A” in Dübendorf.

We are extremely pleased to be able to add another building block to the EAWAG-EMPA campus in Dübendorf - after the experimental hall and the main EAWAG building.

Laboratory Building A, designed by architect Werner Forrer in 1959, is a striking four-storey block, around 180 meters long and 20 meters deep, from the first construction phase of EMPA. The comprehensive refurbishment will extend the life of the building by a further 30 to 50 years.

The measures include compliance with current fire safety regulations, upgrading with regard to earthquake safety and creating accessibility. At the same time, flexible technical building systems are being installed and sustainable construction solutions with energy-efficient systems and durable materials are being implemented - all under the premise of strengthening the architectural character of the building.
