Continuing to build on existing structures

Sustainable planning begins with an analysis of the existing building stock, which plays a central role. Until the beginning of the 20th century, buildings were adapted to new needs by means of extensions and additions. The modern architecture of the post-war period made renovations seem rather despondent, and new construction became the norm. Due to the scarcity of resources, climate change, and the loss of architectural identity, the topics of renovation, expansion, and conversion - i.e., continuing to build on existing structures - are receiving increased attention.

Sebastian El Khouli will moderate the in-depth session "A1 - Continuing to build on existing buildings as a contribution to building culture" with Raphael Frei, pool Architekten; Sara Barth, ETH Zurich, Prof. Robert Braissant, Bern University of Applied Sciences and Fabian Früh, Salathé Architekten.

The event will be held in german and simultaneously translated into french.
