1st prize | Extension of the BBZW+G vocational training center, Sursee

Our project 'Insieme' has won the public competition for the expansion of the BBZG+W vocational training centre in Sursee. Our design thoughtfully advances the existing campus: a seven-storey timber building along the railway line enables resource-efficient and compact urban densification. The main entrances are now oriented towards the railway station, allowing students to reach their educational destination directly and conveniently – relieving the adjacent neighbourhood, shortening routes and creating a clearly legible campus.

At its heart lies a learning landscape that fosters collaboration. Flexible classrooms, light-filled interior spaces and generous gathering zones create environments for exchange, curiosity and development. The existing Wing B is also being transformed: carefully deconstructed to basement level and rebuilt as a timber structure.

The landscape design responds to climate change: additional shading, nature-based outdoor spaces and a richly planted rooftop landscape strengthen the campus identity while improving the microclimate. Furthermore, the project sets high standards in sustainable construction – with planned Minergie-P certification and SNBS standards for the sports wing.

'Insieme' creates a forward-thinking educational environment that unites sustainability, functionality and architectural quality with a long-term vision for the site.
